Government announces funding for Round 2 of the Healthy Communities Initiative project
In June 2011, the Federal Department of Health and Ageing announced that it would fund 33 additional Local Government Areas to commence programs in their communities that would encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles. Heartmoves, along with five other established nutrition or exercise programs, will be rolled out as a part of the project. Glenorchy City Council wins award for participation for older adults program
The Glenorchy City Council has won a 2010 Medibank Active Tasmania Award for its Glenorchy Older Adults Participation Partnership Project. The project incorporates Heartmoves programs as well as other physicial activiity programs, including walking and 'taster' programs under the council's Growing Older and Living Dangerously (GOLD) banner. Under the council's Recreation Plan 2008-13 there has been a focus on increasing the proportion of people participating in physical activity and the frequency of participation.
