Leader Training Course
Overview:
This core course will provide the skills, resources and knowledge you need to become an accredited Heartmoves Leader, essential for delivering a licensed Heartmoves program.
Heartmoves is a low to moderate intensity exercise program specifically designed to cater for people with lifestyle risk factors or with stable, long term health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and bone or joint problems.
It is an essential prerequisite for completing any other Heartmoves training courses.The training is delivered by a team of health and fitness professionals and provides leaders with:
- Risk assessment tools and skills (screening those clients who require medical clearance to exercise) which incorporate a clearance and communication section for GPs
- Use of referral and feedback tools to General Practice
- Protocols and risk management strategies for safely delivering exercise to all people, especially those with long term health conditions such as heart disease and diabetes
- Skills in delivering multiple versions of each exercise so each individual can participate at their own low to moderate rate of perceived exertion
- The incorporation of theory, demonstrations, practice, small group work and discussion of case studies
- Overall programming guidelines making the programs safe for all participants regardless of condition
- Skills and resources to assist in participating in Care Planning as an "other provider"
- Marketing and promotion advice in establishing and growing their classes within the fitness and exercise industries on an accessible user pays basis
It is an essential pre-requisite for completing any other Heartmoves training courses.

Eligibility:
Please note that whilst Heartmoves training may be undertaken for professional development purposes by any health or exercise professional, it is essential that those who wish to go on to provide commercial Heartmoves exercise programs must be qualified, registered, insured exercise professionals (FA, Kinect, APA, ESSA, APMA). For those registered with Fitness Australia and Physical Activity Australia (previously KinectAustralia), you will also need to have completed Older Adults Unit of Competency.
Delivery Mode:
Online component PLUS Face to Face 2 Day Workshop. The course consists of two compulsory components:
Part I: Distance Theory Modules - (approx 14 hrs), completed online or by DVD and presented by exercise and health professionals. These modules cover risk factors and chronic disease, safety guidelines, risk assessment and risk management in delivering Heartmoves to people with chronic conditions.
Part II: Practical Training Workshop - (2 days), including demonstrations, case studies, small group work and panel discussions designed to integrate the theory into your delivery, management and marketing of Heartmoves
